Picture of Ban Gioc waterfall wins first at ‘Viet Nam from above’ photo contest

An award ceremony of the “Viet Nam from above” contest was held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 8 with the first prize going to Ho Chi Minh City-based photographer Nguyen Tan Tuan for his picture capturing Ban Gioc waterfall in Cao Bang province.

One second, three third and 10 consolation prizes were also presented to some of the best entries at the ceremony.

Tuan’s photo stood out from nearly 4,000 entries sent by 261 professional and amateur photographers across the country to the contest, which was launched four months ago.

According to Tuan, he took the photo on December 1, 2018 when he joined his colleagues on a 2,000-km trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Cao Bang province.

“It was raining lightly on the day, but it stopped as we approached the waterfall, revealing the beautiful sky under the sun,” Tuan recalled.

“We burst into joy and admireed the waterfall with the clear bubbling water falls with white foam,” Tuan said, hailing that Ban Gioc deserves to be labelled most beautiful waterfall in Vietnam.

Themed ‘Pride of Viet Nam Frontier’, the contest aimed to create a vẹnue for both professional and amateur photographers, particularly those who take photos with flying camera (flycam/drone) techniques.

This year’s event recorded a 20% increase in the number of entries, as compared to its first edition last year. The quality of entries was also improved with a wider range of topics highlighting the natural beauty of Viet Nam, particularly in sea and island regions and border areas.
